A. your best bet would be wireless internet through a wireless router. your xbox live connection wont be as fast but it'll get the job done. and you said that your internet is in the basement and the xbox on the third floor, check first to see how much signal wireless would give you from such a distance. otherwise your going to need to either move the internet box or throw down the ethernet wire from the third floor to the basement.
